Uncle Lorenzo and Aunt Eva's 50th Wedding Anniversary

On Saturday, March 6th, Lorenzo and Eva Stabler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversay with a traditional Omaha handgame and Gourd Dance. I was fortunate to be able to attend and dance for the first time in 14 years. Even better I got to dance with my father, Howard Wolfe, for the first time ever. It was a special event for me in many ways, not least of which was that I officially broke my mourning for my mother who passed away October 8, 2002. The Kenj came with me to attend her first doings ever. We had a great time with my family and I want to thank my sister for putting us up, my father for traveling down to Lincoln to dance with me, the Vances and Stablers for being the best family, and Uncle Lorenzo and Aunt Eva especially for honoring me with their consideration and for allowing me to offer what little honor I could in participating in their special event.

In order to share the event I've collected four short videos so far. I apologize for the paltry offerings and any long download times that may occur. I hope soon to get more clips up. Thanks to The Kenj and Fawn Byron for videography.

If your working with a slower internet connection, you might want to right click on the images and "save the target" video to your hard drive.

Howard and Henry Wolfe Dancing 1 (3.11MB) Me and my dad dancing, with an impromptu appearance by the irrepressible Fawn Byron.

Howard and Henry Wolfe Dancing 2 (3.06MB) More of me and my Dad dancing, in this one Kay-Kay is ready for her closeup.

Powwow Princes and her family (3.92MB) This year's Lincoln Indian Club Powwow Princess and family.

Gourd Dancing and Hair Braiding (22.7MB) It's a big one, but worth the wait. This is a nice shot captured by The Kenj, juxtaposing the braiding with the dancing. Notice how hard my Dad's wife works my sister Julia's hair. And Kenj found the fader. Nice.
